Ultimate On30 2-Axle Box Cab Critter Loco DCC TCS WOW Sound KA4

Ultimate On30 2-Axle Box Cab Critter Loco DCC TCS WOW Sound KA4

$ 599.99

If you like Box Cab Critter Locos, here's a really LOUD short, a little over 3 inches long, mighty midget you're going to love. You won't find another one that runs this well and has a custom scratch built all resin plastic cab body that took months to design and build.

Custom On30 Scale Box Cab 2-axle Critter loco #5, built on an Athearn Roundhouse EMD Model 40 chassis, with DCC, Train Control Systems #1533 WOW101-KA Diesel sound, and working direction controlled Front & Rear LED lights. Don't like our prime mover, horn, or bell sounds? That's okay, there's a whole library of other sounds available on this TCS WOW101-KA (1533) diesel sound system for you to tinker with all using the easily accessible TCS audio assistant - NO MORE CV CODE programming. Audio assist has easy menu driven choices just like voice mail.

(NOTE: Don't like audio assist? Try the incredibly easy to use TCS Online Diesel CV Code Generating Programming Guide.)

We started with a brand new Athearn Roundhouse EMD Model 40 locomotive 1509 with DCC. We installed a new Train Control Systems #1533 WOW101-KA Diesel DCC system with a 28mm 2 watt loudspeaker and KeepAlive device. Now, it runs so slow on notch #1, you can barely see it moving. But you can sure hear it! This model was a prototype for a production run that never ran. This is the only one ever built. There will not be another.

We removed the original body and installed a scratch built box cab shell that mounts onto the chassis via 4 screws inside the cab. The cab roof is press fit onto the shell, not glued. The new cab has two side doors with latch detail, dusty window glass plastic in all but the crew windows, fully painted and weathered engineer and fireman figures, fully painted cab interior, detailed front radiator, front grab railings, rear service ladder, large rooftop exhaust, and side mounted fuel tanks with filler nozzle with cap. The finished model has several coats of acrylic weathering with a final light coat of dust, so it will look good (or would that be bad) for many years to come.

After all that work, we couldn't resist running it around the test track a few times so it probably has ten minutes or less of run time on it before we cleaned the wheels and packed it up. Not only does it look great with Bachmann 18' cars (not included), but it ran great on our 15" radius test track with no problems even with 18' On30 freight cars coupled to it. With an axle spacing of less than 2 inches, this loco would probably run on an even tighter radius, but we only tested it down to 15" radius curves.

All the original Athearn Roundhouse and TCS paperwork is included, so you can play with the audio assistant menus all you like, but not the original box since the modified loco no longer fits in it. You will receive the actual model shown in the photos. Items combined if possible and include professional packing and insurance. Background scenery, track and On30 freight cars are NOT included.
